Easter Morning in the Hidden Garden

We love Easter, or more appropriately, we love spring and all of the wonders that come with it, including Easter.

However, Miss K, what she loves best on Easter morning is to go on her egg hunt! As soon as she is awake she wants to hunt for eggs!

It doesn’t matter if the bunny has hidden them outside or inside, as long as she can go and find them all!

For Easter 2011, E.B. as he is known in our house had hidden the eggs all around a beautiful little garden that was nestled in a hidden spot of our complex.

Miss K begged me to get her dressed and take her out before the dew was even off the plants, and the fog was still hanging in the air!

As the sun began to peek over the flowers, we ventured forth and found the abundant bounty that E.B. had left for her….. She also loved picking some flowers for our Easter dinner table along the way!

A Little Girl’s VERY First Rose!

Our Little Miss K LOVES nature, and flowers especially.

In March of 2011, when she was 4, she got her first rose ever, and she treasured it! She danced with it, hugged it, posed with it, drew pictures of it! The best memories, though, are of the first time she saw it, and when we told her it was hers – she was SO excited – the reaction and smile on her face, and her giggle were just precious! I am thankful that I managed to capture her reaction on film!

However – roses have an even deeper meaning to us. Her middle name is also Rose, because they are my favorite flowers, and because her Daddy is a Sci-Fi fan of a character from the most recent Dr. Who series, who happens to be named Rose.

It is because of all of this, that her very first Rose meant so very much to all of us!

Fundraising for a very dear friend!

Hello everyone – this is off-topic for me, but it is VERY important! I have a very close family friend (she is more like another sister to me) whose little girl is dying.  Let me share a bit of Jessi’s story with you – I am copying this directly from the fundraising page I created for them.

You will never see a sweeter smile than the one that Jessi will give you when she is having a good day. When she is happy and content and she is feeling good, her smile could light up the room!

However, Jessi is a very sick little girl, and her body is having trouble fighting. After all, she has fought for every breath, and every day for the last 19 years.

You see, according to doctors at Jessi’s birth – she would only live for 24 hours, but Jessi is a fighter and she is 19 now, and still fighting!

Jessi has lot of very complicated, life threatening diseases including – CHD, Leukemia, and Down’s Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, Autism, congenital hydrocephalus, reflux with a Nissan tuck, and is fed through a g-tube. She has a seizure disorder, cannot walk or talk, and has Osteopenia.. post stroke and pulmonary hypertension.

That sounds like a lot, and it is, but she is also very lucky that she has an amazing family, who loves her beyond measure, and has been fighting right alongside her the entire time. They also have many friends who have helped along the way, but now they need just a little extra help.

They could really use some help to pay for the many, many trips that they must make, far from home, to seek the treatments that Jessi needs; to help cover her medical bills, and just to make life a bit easier while they spend the precious time they have left with Jessi, and concentrate on her, their family, and enjoying every moment they can until they have to say goodbye.

No parent, should ever have to say goodbye to their child, or a sibling to their sister or brother, but it is a very real part of too many families lives.

I am working very hard on something special for the family – as an incentive for people who follow this blog to give even $5 or $10 to help them. The bills are piling up, and the fundraiser has not really made them any money yet, but I am hopeful that somehow I can help them at least a little.

Please keep an eye out for my free gift and donation incentive – but in the meantime, even a tiny donation will help them, so PLEASE consider giving just a small amount. I promise this is a legit fundraiser, and Give Forward is an amazing charity fundraiser group.

Thank you for your time. Here is the link to her page:

My Light, My Joy, The Love of My Life…My Little Girl!

My daughter is truly the light of my life! She can make the sun shine on even the most gloomy of days! Her smile can light up the room, and the joy that she emanates is truly contagious!

Spring is one of our most favorite times of year – catching bugs, playing in the new grass, planting flowers,  and all of the wonderful things that come with Spring!

We had this photo session a couple of years ago, so that I could send off an Easter/Passover card to all of our friends and family, and we had such a wonderful time – it was a beautiful spring day, but Miss K just wanted to use the studio and play with all of mommy’s spring props – so we stayed in – with the warm sunshine pouring in, and had the time of our lives! I even got some amazingly gorgeous photos!!!

I love these photos because they truly capture our little ray of sunshine!!

A Love Like No Other!

I waited a VERY long time to become a Mom, and there is no sweeter sound – no matter what time of day, or under what circumstances – than hearing my baby girl (who is not a baby anymore) call me Mommy.

Sadly, as I am a photographer I spend WAY more of my time behind the camera, and not in front of it, and I realized the other day that I need to get MUCH more time in front of the camera – with my baby girl – so that I have memories of her and I together in a “physical” form, not just in my personal memory banks!!!

When she was a baby,  either my husband or I were frequently taking pictures of the other holding her, playing with her, etc.  However, as she has gotten older, those moments seem to be farther and farther apart – and she is not nearly as compliant as she once was, either.   😦

Now she wriggles, complains, and makes sad faces, or completely hides her face, almost every time I ask my husband to take a photo of us. The sweet, cuddly, smiley ones are few and far between. I cherish all of them – blurry or not, because they are reminders of us, and our Mommy/daughter bond in all of it’s simplicity and eccentricity, and complexity!

The photo below was a lighting test for my new rig a few years ago, and my husband caught a GORGEOUS shot! It is still to this day one of my favorite pictures of she and I! The other is one I took last minute for a Valentine’s exchange for one of our family support groups.

Both tug at my heart, make me smile, make me tear up just a little, and remind me ALWAYS, why I do what I do for a living – photographic memories are a moment in time, a moment that will never be again. We will never be, exactly that person other than in that one brief moment.

I thank my husband for capturing this moment for me, and for helping me remember everyday why I waited so long to become a Mommy – and that my beautiful girl was out there waiting for me – we just had to find each other!!

Silly Valentine’s Day Ideas!

I found this really cute idea for a Valentine’s Day gift for Daddy on Pinterest – everyone who knows me KNOWS I tried very hard to avoid Pinterest for many, many years, but I finally fell, and joined, and now I LOVE spending evenings looking for fun ideas for photo sessions, crafts, and birthday party planning, like many others, I could get lost on there for hours and hours!

Anyway, for Valentine’s Day this year I wanted to do a special photo shoot with Miss K to surprise Daddy, and I found this super cute one that had been done with an infant/toddler, and thought it would be fun to recreate it with our “big girl” – so we did!!!

She was not in a mood to smile for me, or cooperate AT ALL – so it was a short and difficult session – but I was happy enough with a few of the photos that I managed to complete the project, nonetheless!

This is what we ended up with!

Luckiest Mommy in The World!!!!

I am the luckiest Mommy in the world, because I get the enormous privilege of raising you! You bring so much joy to my heart, every day!

Daddy and I never knew when we began our journey to parenthood what a long and difficult journey it would be, but in the end we were blessed with you – so it was WAY beyond worth every second!!

Thank you,my sweet little girl – for the laughter and smiles. For the kisses and hugs, for your wonderful imagination, and love of life, nature, and exploration.

Thank you for being my baby!!!

I love you – to the moon and back!
